Associate Attorney, Commercial and Construction Litigation

4 minutes
Location: Massachusetts
Type: Fully Remote
Salary: $120,000 - $140,000 (commensurate with experience)

About Cole Law Partners

Cole Law Partners is a Massachusetts boutique litigation firm focused on construction law, commercial litigation, employment disputes, insurance coverage, and related matters. We partner with contractors, business owners, and individuals in complex, high stakes disputes in state and federal courts and before arbitral forums. Our practice is built around personalized counsel, rigorous analysis, and strategic advocacy for sophisticated clients.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an Associate Attorney to join our litigation team. The ideal candidate will have two to five years of experience, but we are interested in strong candidates with varying years of experience who can contribute meaningfully to our clients. Lawyers who will thrive at Cole Law Partners are excited about lawyering and take pride in the quality of their work. They enjoy creative, engaged problem solving and want to push themselves and their colleagues to become better lawyers through thoughtful, team-oriented collaboration.

This position offers substantial responsibility on active cases, not a support role at the margins. You will work directly with partners on strategy, client development, case assessment, and execution. You will see how decisions are made, have a voice in that process, and help carry those decisions through to results for clients.

Scope of Work

The associate who joins us can expect to:

  • Draft complaints, answers, dispositive and discovery motions, and supporting memoranda.
  • Handle written discovery, including interrogatories, document requests, and requests for admission, and assist in managing document productions.
  • Prepare for and participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, trials, and arbitrations.
  • Conduct legal research on procedural and substantive issues in construction, commercial, and employment disputes.
  • Work directly with partners and clients to develop case strategies, evaluate risk, and explore resolution options.

Our matters typically involve complex contract disputes, construction projects with technical and scheduling issues, business break-ups, employment disputes, and insurance coverage questions that require close attention to both facts and documents.

Qualifications

We recognize that excellent lawyers do not all have the same background. In general, we are looking for:

  • JD from an accredited law school and admission to the Massachusetts bar (required). Admission to the Rhode Island or New Hampshire bar is a plus, but is not required.
  • Litigation experience, with specific exposure to commercial litigation disputes, construction disputes, or employment law strongly preferred.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills, with experience drafting motions and other court filings as well as client reports and recommendations.
  • Comfort working with complex fact patterns, contracts, financial information, and technical project records.
  • A collaborative mindset, professional judgment, and the ability to take ownership of assignments and move them forward with appropriate supervision.

Candidates with clerkship experience, prior work at litigation firms, or substantive experience in construction or commercial disputes are encouraged to apply.

Firm Structure and Compensation

We are a fully remote firm. Our lawyers collaborate daily by video, phone, and shared case platforms, and we meet in person as needed for hearings, client meetings, and strategy sessions.

Compensation is transparent and designed to reward quality work and contribution.

We offer:

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience.
  • Incentive-based compensation tied to billable performance and firm contributions.
  • Comprehensive benefits including health insurance, dental insurance, and a 401(k) plan.
  • Unlimited vacation policy, with the expectation of professionalism, accountability, and reliability to the team and clients.
  • Firm support and assistance for participation in industry groups, trade associations, and bar organizations.

Professional Development and Culture

This role offers direct collaboration with experienced trial lawyers, early and meaningful responsibility on sophisticated matters, and exposure to high caliber clients. We value preparation, sound judgment, and practical advice, and we invest in developing associates as long term contributors to the firm.
